Do you have a visual in your mind of God? If you are like me it is a bit ambiguous. More terrifying than loving. Jesus was the “good guy”. My strict legalistic upbringing shaped Him to be more of a stern, kind of cranky, impatient old authoritative figure. Do NOT question anything. I left that venue of worship decades ago. A few years ago, I came back to the Church. I was lead to my family of worshipers who teach God’s mercy, love, compassion, faithfulness and gentle guidance. Still Jesus is the one that holds a stronger mental image. And yet they are One. The Father, Spirit, and Son. “I and my Father are One.” I’m diverting a bit, however. What captures your attention in the following text?
The Lord your God is with you. The mighty warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17
There is a lot here that I want to dig into further. Context. References. Purpose. Who was Zephaniah? Historical contemporaries. So interesting. BUT the initial eye catcher for me was the singing part. God sings? Rejoicing over us brimming with joy. He’s got some super groovy attributes that never even occurred to me. He’s definitely the ultimate artist. We as humans are created in His image. He’s the original. Yet in all of my human arrogance, it never occurred to me that He is actually way more interesting that I am. Or you. Or whoever else is we hold in high regard. Heaven is not going to be boring. Why would it be? God sings. Probably means he likes music. And poetry. He likes talking and walking. He obviously loves color, shape, form and texture. Etc. I challenge you to cultivate your mental images. Read. Question. Chat. Pray.
Blessings.
